If you or someone you love has been exposed to mold, there are many symptoms that will present themselves. While obvious, they often go unchecked because they're very similar to the ones of health problems that aren't as serious like the cold or flu. Naturally any recurring health problem is usually a sign of a more serious problem, in this case it could mean that you have a mold infestation in your home.

The first defense you have in the fight against mold is to familiarize yourself with the symptoms. This is the biggest tool you have to protect yourself against the dangers of exposure to mold.

Prevention of mold exposure can be done through home testing by a professional. This can be a costly procedure, but it is an investment well worth the money. Mold can, in rare cases, cause death so it's very important to prevent recurring mold exposure since the problems tend to get more severe with each outbreak.

Physical Symptoms

There are numerous physical signs of an exposure to mold. Some them can be extremely mild like a mild allergy outbreak. Other signs can be more severe and include seizures and upper respiratory infections. The more toxic the mold, the more severe symptoms you'll experience. The same holds true if you're repeatedly exposed to mold for longer periods of time.

After mold exposure you may experience brittle nails and hair loss. Cold-like feelings like a stuffy nose, runny nose and sore throat are also common. You may experience frequent nosebleeds. On the more alarming end of continuing mold contact, you may get cancer, experience anaphylaxis (trouble breathing), have reproductive organ complications or loose large amounts of weight. If the more serious symptoms of mold exposure get worse, there is also the risk of death. This is rare, but not impossible.

Psychological Symptoms

Signs of mold contact can also affect your psychological health. You might loose your memory abilities. There's the possibility of an increased risk of anxiety and depression. Fatigue can be a problem, as can insomnia. These are often misdiagnosed and improperly treated. Medications used to treat these without dealing the cause will produce little or no results. Left untreated, there's the potential that they become more serious physical problems that could lead to death.

Treatment Of Symptoms

Symptoms of mold exposure have, in the past, been diagnosed as other health problems because they appear to be another non-mold related problem. Misdiagnosis will most of the time result in more serious health problems. You may be affected with mold fungi if you've been treated for any of the above treatments, but haven't received any relief.

If you're finding that you're constantly sick, or a family member who lives with you is regularly sick, you may have a mold problem, especially if the medical treatments don't seem to be working. It may be a good idea to get your home inspected by a professional mold inspector.

Mold doesn't need to be toxic to inflict you and your family with the symptoms. For your own piece of mind, it's always a good idea to have your home regularly inspected for mold. Doing so could prevent serious problems of mold exposure later on.

Infantile Eczema or baby eczema is a skin condition that occurs in infants and older children. It is usually caused by a combination of factors, from dry and highly sensitive skin to different types of skin diseases, or simply from allergies.

Baby eczema is thought to have a genetic component, as some people seem to be prone to allergies and dry skin. Many allergies in children occur during the first years of life and often seem almost impossible to prevent. This is why you should observe the factors - foods, chemicals, allergens or irritants - that might trigger your child's allergy, causing eczema rashes.

What are the triggers of allergies in children?

Beside heredity, hay fever and asthma are the most common factors linked with baby eczema, and these are all related to allergies. Excessive heat and emotional stresscan also cause eczema rashes. Many specialists believe certain fabrics, detergents or soaps; skin care products and perfumes also triggerbaby eczema. In order to prevent flare-ups of eczema, you should avoid using chemical products for your baby's hygiene, and opt for pharmaceutical or dermatological ones.

Allergies in children often develop due to dry air, so, while air-filtering devices can be useful, air conditioning devices in your child's room should be avoided. Pollen, mold, dust and smoke are common irritants, and can cause dry skin and eczema rashes. Some other triggers for baby eczema are animal dander, highly acidic foods or drinks, dairy products and sweating.

Which are the most common baby eczema symptoms?

Eczema rashes usually manifest through itchy, dry skin, with small, red bumps usually located on the cheeks, forehead or on your baby's scalp. This is why this condition is also called cradle cap. Occasionally, the rash can spread to legs and arms also, so it's possible to notice some small, slightly raised rashes on the backs of the ankles or wrists, or in the bends of elbows.

The typical symptom of baby eczema is the dry skin, often with a rough texture and small bumps. White, scattered patches can also be present, and from time to time some areas of the skin can become more irritated and flare-up.

This type of allergy occurs in 1 of 10 children and its symptoms usually disappear within few years. However, there are cases in which the signs of baby eczema are still present during adolescence or throughout early adulthood.

Can baby eczema be treated?

Yes. This illness is easy to recognize and the diagnosis is usually based on the medical history of the patient and the present symptoms. An allergy specialist might examine the distribution of the rash; its appearance and he might look for evidence of thicker skin, caused by itching and rubbing.

Treatment options for eczema rashes can include antihistamines, which help to control the itching sensation, and antibiotics for preventing or treating secondary infections, non-steroid medications and topical corticosteroids.

These can be found in different forms, usually creams and ointments. They should be applied directly on the affected regions of the skin, twice a day, until the skin recovers. Daily moisturizing lotions are very important for treating baby eczema, and they should be applied to the whole body, in order to prevent the re-appearance of dry skin.

For parents looking for 'natural' eczema and skin rash treatments, non-invasive (no shots and no drugs), electrodermal testing and natural supplements have proven very effective in reducing or eliminating many types of allergy symptoms, including skin rashes and eczema.

How can you determine if you have gluten sensitivity? What are the gluten allergy symptoms that you are to look out for? How is this related to wheat allergy? What is gluten in the first place?

Gluten is a sticky protein found in bread that gives it its spongy characteristics. Gluten is a glue-like substance and is used in many other foods besides bread. It is also found in other products such as candy and ketchup and even in ranch dressing. Gluten allergy is when a person's body negatively reacts to an intake of gluten into their body or, simply put, gluten intolerance.

Someone with gluten allergy may feel the following gluten allergy symptoms- extreme fatigue, develop hives, asthma, skin problems, autism, diarrhea and abdominal pains. The most important symptoms to look out for are diarrhea, constipation, losing and gaining weight. Upon experiencing these symptoms though, do not immediately assume the person has Celiac disease as it may be simply gluten allergy. Either way, it is just proper to avoid foods that contain gluten and take a gluten free diet. Besides gluten free foods, there are non-gluten breads and cakes for the gluten allergic and this is highly suggested for those with the allergy for them not to miss the other nutrients found in bread and wheat. This may also bring them to avoid regular cereal and consume alternative cereals like those made of rice flour.

Gluten allergy does not specifically mean a person is wheat allergic or yeast allergic. A wheat allergic person may be able to consume some types of barley and rye but there still numerous other wheat products that the allergic person must avoid. A physician's list of consumables is always the best to follow as he or she will be able to determine what consumables are fit for the patient. This is where a diet consisting of gluten free foods best comes in.

It must be noted that gluten allergy is different from gluten sensitivity or the Celiac disease. Celiac is a disease where the body fails to identify the gluten in the body as a neutral particle and attacks the small intestine, damaging the villi in the process. Gluten allergy is merely a negative reaction that the body exhibits when gluten enters the body system. Those with gluten allergy do, however, usually have a tendency to develop the Celiac disease as their body is already weak to the substance and resists it from continuing into the system.

Another thing to note is that those with a strong gluten allergy or have already developed gluten intolerance may also develop lactose intolerance. This is caused by the poor bowel control that weakens the intestines therefore leading to a body intolerant to products rich in casein like milk and cheese.

If your allergy symptoms are continuous, you most probably have chronic allergies. Symptoms that persist day after day and week after week are an indication that you are constantly being exposed to irritants that cause your allergies to flare. Here are 5 of the most common culprits and an effective solution to the problem.

Dust--- Generally a combination of particles from indoors and outdoors, it can cause sneezing, wheezing, watery eyes, runny nose, and congestion to be a constant part of daily life. It can be made up minute pieces of lint from clothing and upholstery, dirt and sand from outdoors, small pieces of paper from magazines and mail, and even metal shavings that hinges sometimes generate as doors are opened and closed.

Dust Mites- These eight-legged bugs thrive in warm, dark, and moist places. They feed on dander (or flakes of dead skin). They are most commonly found in the bedroom, and mores specifically in mattresses, bed linens, and pillows. It is the protein in their feces that they leave everywhere that causes allergy sufferers so much grief.

Mites are not fussy about whose dander they feed on, so if you have a warm-blooded pet that has a favorite mat or special cushiony bed, the mites can be found there as well.

Mold and Mildew Spores- These microscopic fungi (much like plants but without chlorophyll) are a natural part of outside air, and are impossible to keep from entering indoor air. They need moisture to survive so they are generally found in kitchens, basement, bathrooms and laundry rooms.

When they find the least bit of water indoors they reproduce at an exponential rate clogging your air with even more spores. They are a potent allergen that can be detrimental to good health.

Pollen--- Most people associate this allergen with springtime. But there is a saying that there's always something blooming. And that means pollen is in the air. So depending on the climate where you live, tree pollen can go airborne as early as January, followed by flower pollen in the spring, grass pollen in the summer, and weed pollen in the fall.

Because it is impossible to keep pollen from attaching to hair, clothes, packages, and pets, pollen will find its way indoors. This makes it available to be easily inhaled and cause chronic allergy symptoms throughout the year.

Pet Dander--- If you share your life with a warm-blooded animal such as a cat, dog, bird, ferret, or bunny you have an invisible allergen called dander. This is a natural part of their growth and development and will be a part of life for as long as they remain with you.

The protein in their dander is an allergy-triggering irritant that can make keeping your pet a challenge if not impossible. Daily routines by you and your pet cause it to go airborne, adding yet another irritant to your air.

Without a way to manage the allergens above, your air continues to have a high volume of allergy triggers that you are constantly inhaling. It's no wonder symptoms can persist. The best way to minimize symptoms is to drastically reduce the number of allergens you are exposed to indoors.

Filtering your air continuously with a high efficiency particle arresting (or HEPA) air purifier is an effective solution to the problem. Designed to remove 99,997 out of every 10,000 airborne particles that are.3 microns or greater, it can easily eliminate allergens from your air, which will let you live your life without the burden of chronic allergy symptoms.

When these electricity bundles or pathways become jangled, clogged, under stimulated or blocked in anyway, the body loses its dynamic and ever changing balance - this balance effects and includes everything especially the nervous system, digestion, and circulatory system muscles and joints. Body pollution accumulates. Allergies are one of the many health imbalances that occur.

Integrative medicine employs electricity rebalancing as one of its most effective treatments to eliminate allergies. this treatment has many benefits, including being able to desensitize common and rare allergies

Getting to know your body is an aha! experience a big wow. Worry, anxiety, insomnia and constipation lead the symptoms that are caused by an electric system that doesn't work.

The nature of the energy in the body itself as a constant force, in continual state of movement and flux. You are like a human battery. Everything is electric. Everything has a charge. Your body is a field of energy that radiates out twelve feet according to science.

This electricity is organized in highly complex and specific pathways. In orthodox or allopathic medicine these are called tracts, in Chinese medicine, meridans, and in Ayurveda, chakras or marma points. When these electricity bundles or pathways become jangled, clogged, under stimulated or blocked in anyway, the body lose its dynamic and ever changing balance . This balance effects and includes everything especially the nervous system, digestion, and circulatory system muscles and joints.

Integrative medicine employs electricity rebalancing as one of its most effective treatments to eliminate allergies.

This treatment has many benefits, including being able to desensitize common and rare allergies.

Other benefits include relaxation of the nervous system, increased circulation and gentle detoxification, and increased efficiency of the electric and subtle energy systems. Again, when the allergic code is broken in the electric body, you become allergy free.

Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine believe that these meridians or microscopic pathways transport energy throughout the body and are its source of vitality.

This energy is called chi or Qi (pronounced chee), and is literally translated as air or life force. There are two main types of Qi: the life force you are born with and the Qi you get from sleep, food and fresh air.

Allergens can disturb and trigger reactions from the meridian system millions of times a day. When the reaction is big enough to jam the electricity in the meridian channels and cause chemical disturbances in the body, we call it an allergy. The meridian energy system is used to treat the problem, to bring the body back to normal as quickly as possible with least amount of invasion. Meridian treatments are given using acupressure -no needles! this is a big reason why these treatments are so effective on children.

Chinese medicine is based on Qi, yin/yang, and a belief in the five basic elements: fire, water, ether, earth and air. These are the five basic elements all humans, animate and inanimate beings.
In the British Medical Journal in 1937, Sir Thomas Lewis reported that he had found physical evidence of "unknown nervous system". This system, he said, was composed of minute lines. this energy lines branched from the surface of the skin connecting bowels and organs. What Lewis found for the West was the meridian system, known by eastern health practitioners for thousands of years.

When Qi is disturbed in the brain channels worry , anxiety, constipation and insomnia occur. This disturbances sets the stage for allergies.

Ayurveda (ah your-Vay-dah) also known as the science of life is a comprehensive medical system that is believed to be over six thousand years old. It focuses on the subtle energies in all things, but also in thoughts, emotions, and actions. Each persons' state of health is based in the relationship of the three vital energy systems called Doshas (DOH-shahs)which are the nervous system, digestive systems and the tissue of the body. Ayurveda does not present the idea that disease is caused by microorganism, germs and / or pollen. diseases state is caused when there is weakness or disturbance to one or more of the dosha energy systems, which locks the body into dis-ease.

Wheat allergies are fairly common; it is one of the big eight most common food allergies. Obviously there will be symptoms when you have a reaction but identifying wheat allergy symptoms can be a problem. Most allergies have the same symptoms so figuring out the cause can be a challenge. It is important that you do figure it out since some reactions can be very serious. People can and do die from a wheat allergy so determining whether or not you have one is important to keep yourself healthy.

The most common symptom of a wheat allergy is eczema. Eczema is a skin rash that most commonly appears on the cheeks, knees and the elbows although it can actually occur anywhere on the body. Eczema is usually a red rash that is often accompanied by oozing blisters. The blisters are mostly caused by scratching since eczema is very itchy. There are a number of other causes of eczema so it is not necessarily caused by a wheat allergy. However if you are susceptible to it eczema outbreaks are often triggered by allergies.

The other most common wheat allergy symptom is asthma. This is where your airway will become inflamed making it difficult to breathe. Asthma can be a very serious condition and it needs to be treated properly if you suffer from it. In almost all cases asthma attacks are the result of an allergic reaction and they can vary dramatically in severity. It is important that you talk to your doctor if you suffer from asthma to make sure that you keep it under control. Asthma attacks can occur at anytime so if you require medication you will want to makes sure that you keep it with you at all times.

The most serious wheat allergy symptom is anaphylaxis. This is an allergic reaction that affects the whole body. Your blood vessels will contract as the result of a release of the protein histamine. This will cause your whole body to swell up and your blood pressure to drop. This is a very serious condition and it requires immediate medical attention. If you know that you are prone to anaphylaxis when you encounter an allergen your doctor will usually recommend that you carry an epinephrine pen with you at all times. This will allow you to give yourself a shot of the medication needed to treat anaphylaxis in the event that you have a reaction.

The biggest problem when trying to use the symptoms to determine whether or not you have an allergy to wheat is that the symptoms are the same as for most allergies. Eczema, asthma and anaphylaxis are called the classic three allergic reactions for a reason; they apply to almost all allergies. In all likelihood you will need to see your doctor for an allergy test to determine exactly what is causing your reaction. Once you know whether or not you have a wheat allergy you can take steps to avoid having a reaction.

Bird allergy is a normal reaction of your body's immune system to the feather dander, or more popularly known as feather dust, and droppings or fecal matter coming out of birds.

People who work closely with birds and those who take care of birds as pets are the most at risk to develop bird allergy. Farm workers, bird fanciers and zookeepers are the most common bird allergy patients in hospitals in the US alone.

However, medical statistics reveal that globally, the ratio of people allergic to birds are far lower compared to those allergic to other animals like dogs and cats.

Be also aware that bird allergy is an allergic reaction that indicates the immune system's efforts to defend you from what it senses or perceives as a health threat. In reality, bird allergy should not be considered as a harmful or deadly disease. Take note that complications to bird allergy kill, not the bird allergy itself.

During the process of an on set of bird allergy, the feather dust becomes an allergen that is not wanted by the body's system. When it manages to make a contact with your body, it will automatically trigger or cause the immune system to retaliate and produce antibodies or counter substances. Hence, you have the symptoms.

Symptoms of bird allergy

People with bird allergies exhibit manifestations or symptoms that are sometimes similar to those for hay fever or allergic rhinitis. It is alarming to know that most of the time, people with this allergy often ignore the onset of the symptoms thinking that these are just petty reaction to some weather or dust elements.

Symptoms for bird allergies can be divided into two groups. One, those symptoms that are considered lesser or less severe. These include watery eyes, sneezing, postnatal drips, sore throat, stuffy nose, coughing, hives itchy eyes and allergic shiners or the presence of black circles in the area below the eyes.

For the more serious form of bird allergies, the symptoms may vary. Take note that suffering from a severe attack of bird allergy can reduce your lung's capacity, that may potentially pose a detriment not just to your health but also to your life.

Such symptoms may appear in a long term like two years of regular or constant exposure to allergy-causing birds like budgies and pigeons. In some cases, bird allergy appears after as long as 10 to 20 years after initial exposure to allergens.

Such cases are determined by finding the following symptoms in a patient: prolonged coughing, breathing difficulties occasions, occasional fever and chills, weight loss and dry cough that lasts for some time.

How is bird allergy treated?

Usually, your doctor will have to delve deeper into your medical records to determine or to make sure the disease is pin pointed at bird allergy.

Take note that most or basic symptoms of bird allergy are minor and therefore needs no further and serious medical treatment. Just like other allergies, bird allergy can disappear on its own without the help of any drug or treatment.

Avoiding or discontinuing exposure to allergens, in this case the birds and their feathers, will surely help cease the bird allergy attack.

Physicians often prescribe antihistamines, decongestants and corticosteroids to relieve the person from a bird allergy attack. Antihistamines block symptoms to allergic reactions, not just to birds, but also to all forms of allergies.

Decongestants relieve swelling of the nasal area and stops secretion of mucus or the stuff that runs through your nose when you have a bad cols. Corticosteroids are drugs that treat inflammation due to allergic and other medical reactions.

Allergy shots, of course, will also greatly help to curtail the onset of bird allergy.

Prevention

The most effective measure to avoid bird allergy, if ever you are allergic to birds, is to avoid getting near these animals. Hygiene is the best combative defense against any form of diseases and will also be effective in fighting attacks of bird allergy.

There seems to be a connection between some food allergies and Candida Albacans.

Candida is common yeast that builds in the abdomen. Candida Albacans is the most common type, which itself comes in two forms - yeast and fungal. In its yeast form it is benign. As it multiples if starts to stick to the walls of the intestines. Given time, it will develop into its fungal form which the one that does the damage.

At this point it has sharp tentacles that will tend to pierce the intestine wall. This causes what is known as "leaky gut syndrome" and brings on infections. It also produces spores, which travel in the blood throughout the body. This is when outward symptoms of Candida pop up.

So how is this related to allergies?

When someone eats a food to which they are allergic, they often suffer from gas, stomach pains, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, or multiple skin complaints. These allergy symptoms will keep the good bacteria in our digestive systems from working as effectively. Part of this good bacteria's job is to keep the Candida Albacans in check. Instead, it tends to grow out of control and convert to the more destructive fungal form more quickly.

Unfortunately, the symptoms of Candida are very similar to the symptoms of the food allergies that may have started the whole attack. Therefore it often isn't recognized immediately. On top of that, the immune system is already hard at work trying to rid the body of what it recognizes as poisonous allergens; giving it less time and resources to attack the Candida. Left unchecked, the Candida starts to spread.

If your food allergies are to foods you eat very infrequently, it is unlikely to lead to Candida unless you have an acute reaction to the food. Strangely, people often aren't aware of their own food allergies. Sometimes they are difficult to detect. Therefore, you might be regularly ingesting something that gives you some level of allergic reaction. These are the more dangerous allergies with regard to Candida development. As they regularly add stress to your digestive and immune systems, Candida is given an opportunity to grow.

If you've been diagnosed with Candida and aren't aware of any food allergies, here are some ways to identify out the culprit food.

1. Create a food diary where you record everything you eat. Also keep track of any physical discomfort, such as bloating, gas or any other stomach discomforts. Record the date and time of each. Analyze the results. Pay particular attention to the most common allergic foods, such as dairy and yeast products. Are there foods that, whenever eaten, are followed by discomfort? You've probably found your food allergy.

2. If you've got a more severe problem you probably want to find out more quickly, as the above method could take weeks or even months to discover. Instead you can visit a nutritionist or an allergy specialist. They can conduct allergy tests that will tell you your sensitivities in an afternoon.

3. Another often-successful tactic is to go on an "anti-Candida diet". This eliminates any foods that may cause allergies from your diet. Although restrictive, it's quite effective. And you're fighting the allergy as well as the Candida Albacans.

Understanding this connection between food allergies and Candida Albacans is important. If you continue to eat the foods that encourage fungal Candida Albacans growth, you will continue to suffer the symptoms. Changing your diet allows you to regain control of your health.

If you suffer from allergies such as hay fever, no doubt you would like a way to achieve complete allergy elimination. This is especially true during hay fever season, when everything from dandelions to ragweed to high pollen levels can make you sneeze and sniffle, have red, itchy and watery eyes, and just in general be miserable.

If your allergies have been severe enough, you've probably tried antihistamines, as well as other drugs and perhaps even gotten allergy shots. In very severe cases, maybe you've even used steroids. Using allergy shots to desensitize you can work as well, but it might take years to actually see results and have your allergy symptoms lessen or disappear.

There are many allergy supplements that can help, including natural cures such as homeopathy and herbal remedies. Other methods such as acupuncture also work to provide at least temporary relief from allergies for many people. However, what if there was a way to have complete allergy elimination without allergy shots, without taking medications, and without having to go through just plain being miserable during allergy season? There is actually a way to do this, using what are called "energy medicine" techniques.

One of the most widely practiced of these natural methods is called NAET, or Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique. Dr. Nambudripad is an acupuncturist and chiropractor that lives in California. He accidentally discovered that if he stimulated specific acupressure medians while he exposed patients to allergens, he could in effect render patients allergy-free.

Dr. Nambudripad first developed his technique in the 1980s, and other similar techniques have since been developed that are more streamlined. However, Dr. Nambudripad's technique is still the most popular. In fact, one of the more streamlined versions of NAET, called Allergy and Sensitivity Elimination and Reprogramming Technique or ASERT, is very effective even for those who chronically suffer from allergies.

Best of all, with these techniques, results occur very quickly and work even for those who are skeptical. With seasonal allergies such as hay fever, symptoms can be severe for weeks or even months at a time. This means that for most allergy sufferers, they need relief now, not at some point in the future. Energy-based allergy elimination techniques work very quickly, within a day or two. Another benefit is that there are no side effects.

Some practitioners who use these methods say their effects are permanent. Although this may be true in some cases, allergies can redevelop, especially after someone has been ill or has had some kind of trauma. In these cases, the techniques may need to be redone to reestablish allergy elimination.

Regardless of skepticism, this type of allergy relief is very real and truly works. It's fast, effective and natural, without the expense or side effects of drug use. In addition, it does not take more than a day or two for allergy relief to occur, unlike some other methods such as homeopathy. It can also work not just for pollen or other airborne allergies, but for foods and skin contact allergies as well.

Cats are adorable because of their fur and friendliness. However, cats may give you problems especially if you are allergic to them. You might be experiencing cat allergies yet there is no way that you are going to move out your pet from home. This might be a problem but dealing with your cat so that you can prevent allergies that may cause serious problems like sinus problems may be accomplished with a little diligence. If ever you have found out that you are allergic to cats, then you must make a move to prevent serious problems. There are many symptoms accompanied with a cat allergy like itchy water eyes, sneezing, runny nose, headache and sinus problems. Therefore if you are going to keep your cat at home then you are going to need to moderate these symptoms. However, there are instances that may be life threatening and will mean that it is time that you have to find a new home for your cat.

You must be reminded that along with these symptoms a cat allergy may cause serious problems such as sinus infection which is a painful and disturbing disease. So, as much as possible, it is better that you determine if you are allergic to cats before it is too late. You must be aware of the symptoms of cat allergies which include infection, eye swelling, itching, and redness of the eyes, post nasal drip, rashes, itchy skin, popping or plugged ears, coughing and hoarseness of voice. At seldom instances, there might be shortness of breath, reoccurring bronchitis, wheezing that may increase if you are exposed to dusts and dirt. These symptoms of cat allergies are closely similar to symptoms of sinus problems. Often times, people mistake the cause of the allergy. Actually, the allergy comes not from the cat but from the perfumes that is used for cats like litter. Cat allergy is actually caused by allergens usually the sebum secreted by your cat. So it is not on the cat's hair that results in the allergy but rather on the protein that is on the dander and these are tiny particles that easily move around.

So how can you prevent sinus problems caused by a cat allergy? There are various ways to do this. The first one is the use of HEPA filters. These are placed in each room of your home and a vacuum with HEPA filters will help as well in the reduction of allergens from cats. Also, it will be a good choice if you are going to keep your cat spayed or neutered which reduces the sebum level which is produced by your cat. Furthermore, you might as well change the carpet on your floorings which makes a great difference because your carpet traps not just cat dander but also dust mites and may be a host for other allergens. You must also bathe your cat regularly and cover your mattress and pillows using tight casings which also help. Be reminded that half of the day is used for sleeping so, it makes sense to keep your cat out of your bedroom and you could as well use allergy vaccines which are designed to desensitize you.

Be aware that sinus problem may bring you life threatening problems, so, if you are thinking about your health but you find it difficult for you to let your cat out of house, then you must follow these tips.

Mustard allergies are a type of food allergy that's very common. It's important to recognize the symptoms. After you determine you have an allergy to mustard, you need to take proper steps to avoid it at all cost.

The symptoms of a mustard allergy

Symptoms can include your breathing being difficult, a rash or hives, or itchy skin. The skin can become swollen too as in other allergic reactions. The problem with being allergic to mustard is that mustard is included in many foods in a way we may not be aware of. Lunchmeat and hot dogs can have mustard seeds in them. Mustard seeds are used as a spice in other foods too.

How to avoid mustard

Avoidance is the best treatment as far as an allergy to mustard is concerned. However this can be easier said than done. Many foods may contain mustard without you ever knowing it. For example, many foods contain mustard seed or oil. It's also common for many sauces to contain mustard oil. Because of this it's important to make sure you read the labels on all processed foods. Not more than ever, companies are taking into account peoples allergic needs.

Treatment options vary

While it's recommended that you eliminate mustard from your diet completely, sometimes that isn't possible. Many over the counter medications are effective if you do not have a severe allergy. However if the symptoms are bad enough, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Many times an allergy shot is the only solution.

Conclusion

It's important to understand that mustard allergies should not be taken lightly. Even though it may seem like a small ingredient, the effects can be devastating if gone untreated. By being careful, you can still be able to enjoy the foods you love in a healthy way.

Seasonal asthma refers to the condition which is characterized by the inflammation and constriction of the airways that is caused in the presence of airborne allergies, for example such as pollen in spring season. This type of asthma tends to show up in a seasonal cycle as a response to increasing levels of a number of airborne allergens as seasons keep changing.

However, the severity of the symptoms of seasonal asthma is variable. The normal asthma already takes a toll on people with its tricky nature that dealing with allergies due to seasonal changes simply acts like the last straw. Generally, allergies are an overreaction to normal substances that doesn't trouble most people. Our immune system has a strong effect on how a person handles one's indoor and outdoor activities. In case of being over-sensitive to certain allergens, the immune system can build up a swelling in the lungs and shut out the air that one needs to breathe in.

So, when an asthmatic patient has allergies, one can experience more frequent attacks in spring and fall seasons. This can make the symptoms of the already active asthma go out of control. Depending on one's immunity strength, it can be subtle or life-threatening. So, better late than never; one should keep tabs upon the early signs so that they can be treated well in time.

Here are some common symptoms of seasonal asthmathat are frequently seen. These are the classic symptoms that basically characterize this special respiratory disorder. They are:

1. Frequent coughing
2. Increased mucus production
3. Feeling of chest tightness
4. Shortness of breath
5. Rapid breathing

If the patient suffers from some kind of allergy, the symptoms such as watery, red eyes, sneezing and runny nose can also be seen. It is recommended that if at all the situation goes out of hand, one must seek medical help. With the doctor's help, one can regularly follow the prescribed medication or even refer to a known allergist that can help the patient to figure out one's asthma triggers.

What is both funny and morbid about these symptoms of seasonal asthma is that they can get aggravate even before the patient realizes it. One may feel that their situation is way under control, but the patient may never know when they turn the tables. So, it's advised that whenever one finds it difficult to breathe properly, they should stop all their work and rush to visit their doctor.

Here are some signs one should watch out for when calling their doctor:

1. Persistence of shortness of breath even after following medication
2. Change in the skin color of the patient
3. Chest pain
4. Difficulty in breathing that disturbs the task at hand

Therefore, it's essential for one to keep self-monitoring oneself so that the symptoms of seasonal asthma can be controlled well in time. With changes in the seasons, one should get more alert and prepared to face the allergies with precautions.

Food allergies can be some of the most troublesome of all allergies. Many times it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what you may be allergic to. Perhaps the worst is a gluten allergy.

Gluten is round in barley, rye and wheat. Since these ingredients are used to make so many of the foods we consume every day, it's easy to see how this can be troublesome. For parents gluten allergies in children can be a real concern. It's important to realize the exact symptoms so you can take preventive action.

Gluten allergy symptoms can range from mild to severe. Mild symptoms are generally fatigue, diarrhea or constipation. It's also easy to recognize the more severe symptoms. These include shortness of breath, cramps, hives, vomiting and swelling of the face and mouth.

Even though no one knows the causes of wheat gluten allergies, the good news is that there help is available. If you believe you have an allergy to gluten, it's important to see your doctor. After specific allergy testing, he'll be able to determine exactly what substances you should avoid. Many times avoidance is the best medicine. Simply put, if you're allergic to something, don't eat it! Your doctor will also be able to recommend prescription strength medication that you can take if you accidentally eat something that contains gluten.

Living with an allergy to wheat & gluten doesn't have to be the end of the world. With proper treatment and by knowing exactly what foods to avoid, you'll be able to live a happy health life.

Developing allergies later in life is becoming more and more common. People experiencing these symptoms for the first time often feel that they are coming down with some kind of viral illness, but that is not always the case. We see this most during peak allergy seasons. During this time of year you will hear common complaints such as:

"My head feels full or heavy" often related to sinus congestion.

"My throat hurts" often sore throat caused by post nasal drip from sinus congestion.

"I feel achy or run-down" often resulting from excess sinus fluid production or resulting infection.

"I feel dizzy or off balance" often resulting from sinus fluid back up into the ears (effects balance).

"My stomach feels upset" often from post nasal drip that causes mucous to accumulate in stomach.

"My eyes are itchy and watery" often from allergen exposure that releases histamines.

Whatever the source of the irritation or allergic reaction, the results are the same. This irritation causes excess mucous production. The accumulation of mucous in the sinus cavities leads to painful congestion. It can cause your head to ache, pain or pressure behind the eyes, and a feeling of head fullness which can cause a general fatigue. This can also bring with it stomach upset, throat irritation and dizziness.

Usually the cause of these symptoms is due to allergens; however it can often mimic viruses, like those that cause the common cold and flu. Allergens cause the lining of the nose, throat and the airways to become inflamed and swell. This causes the release of histamine, which triggers the allergy symptoms.

You may be diagnosed with allergic rhinitis or hay fever. This is a fancy way of saying, "allergic inflammation of the nose," but it can lead to sinusitis, an inflammation of the sinus cavities or a more serious problem if that mucous stays stagnant too long. Over time the mucous can begin to grow bacteria causing a sinus infection.

If you have a viral infection you often experience head and body aches, fatigue, and sometimes fever. With allergic rhinitis you will experience more of the itchy eyes, nose and throat, as well as watery eyes due to the release of histamines. When you experience allergy symptoms, facial pain and a fever, it could be the signal of a sinus infection, especially if it ongoing.

With a sinus infection you often feel pressure around the eyes and sometimes even into the ears. Usually you will have a colored drainage when you cough or spit. This condition can be very uncomfortable and you would need to see your physician to be prescribed an antibiotic to halt the bacterial infection.

Viral causes and basic allergic reactions will not be aided by antibiotics. Over-the-counter (OTC) medications to manage the symptoms and comfort measures are your main treatments. It is important to use OTC products wisely. They will help alleviate the symptoms of cold, flu, or allergic inflammation.

When choosing which medication to take you must determine the condition causing the symptoms.

Then look for the predominant symptoms you want to relieve. Check the active ingredients in the product to determine what they will do for you. Consider the following:

• Pain relievers for aches, pain and fever
• Antihistamines to stop the allergic histamine reaction (for allergic rhinitis)
• Nasal sprays (saline for moistening, decongestant to reduce swelling)
• Decongestants to break up excess mucous (Use caution-these can leave you feeling jittery)
• Expectorants to loosen and cough up mucous
• Cough suppressants to stop a nagging cough
• Throat lozenges or sprays for throat irritations
• Moisturizing eye drops for itchy eyes (take a break from contact usage during this time)

Some OTC products contain a single active ingredient, made to relieve one symptom. Many others contain a combination of active ingredients to treat several symptoms at once. Selecting the right product can be difficult at times. They categorize products according to the predominant symptoms they relieve, so pay attention to the active ingredients and choose only what you need.

See your doctor for any symptoms not resolved by the medications or comfort measures. As with most things, prevention is more effective than intervention. Staying healthy and keeping your immune system strong is your best defense against these symptoms. Practice:

• Balancing nutrition and hydration
• Good hand washing.
• Exercising daily.
• Keeping sinuses moist, using steam or sinus wash treatments.
• Properly covering coughs and sneezes along with proper tissue disposal.
• Getting adequate sleep (usually 8 hours daily).
• Taking adequate recovery time for flare ups.
• Using prophylactic medications consistently (for allergies)
• Monitoring pollen counts and other common allergen counts. Stay in when they are high.

PLEASE NOTE: Conditions that persist, recurrent or are not aided by OTC medications should be checked by your physician to rule out infection or another more serious condition. For example, a sore throat lasting longer than three days or with a fever would be a signal to see your doctor. When in doubt, check it out!

If you answered "yes" to the title question, believe me, I sympathize with your discomfort. I buy extra Kleenex for myself every spring, too. When patients come in looking for relief from allergy symptoms, we always start with the basics. Here are the questions we most often address. I know something in this will help you, too.

Is it an allergy or a cold? For some people, the first bud in spring (or falling leaves in autumn) regularly triggers a cascade of allergic symptoms. Do you start to sneeze and sniffle? Do your eyes and throat itch? Do you wake up with sinus congestion or pressure? Do you have a tired, heavy feeling that seems to characterize this allergy season? If that sounds like you for more than a week (and that's a BIG hint), then most likely you have seasonal allergies. If you have a fever, or if congestion and other symptoms last for only about a week, then chances are that you've had a cold. If you're not sure, check with your doctor.

So, what are allergies anyway? I call it a case of a misguided but well-meaning immune system, whose mission is to protect you from foreign invaders. Generally, allergies are caused by your body's immune reaction to substances that aren't inherently harmful to you. Specifically, seasonal allergies are caused by pollen released into the air by trees, grass, and flowers. Tree pollen, the most predominant, causes the worst of our reactions.

What are the most common symptoms? Itchy throat and eyes are often combined with congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and coughing. If not handled diligently and right away, these symptoms can turn into more involved conditions, such as sinus infections, asthma, or other respiratory ailments, so it's important to take action at once. Also, check with your doctor to be sure you aren't at risk for serious conditions and don't need monitoring.

Can you get help from the natural, holistic world? You bet! There are many steps you can take as well as things you can avoid during this period that will help you be comfortable despite all the signs of spring in the air.

Spring is a time of new potential, growth, and vibrancy. In Chinese medicine, spring is also the season of the liver and gallbladder and their meridians. One great way to recognize and celebrate this season and all it symbolizes is acupuncture and a 10-day liver cleanse diet. It's a safe, easy, effective way to eliminate toxins, recalibrate your body after the winter, and lay the foundation for the active months ahead.

Another way you can mobilize your resources is to use my highly effective 3R System--Recognize, Reframe, Reclaim--to identify the sources of your symptoms and improve your health and well-being during allergy season.

Don't feel like you have to suffer. Allergies are a challenge but not an insurmountable obstacle. First, take charge: Commit yourself to finding out more about what irritants make your immune system go into hyperdrive. Then, take action: Find ways to eliminate or avoid those substances from your environment.

Dust mite allergies are fairly common, mainly because there is dust everywhere. It is very difficult to avoid coming into contact with dust. In most cases dust mite allergy symptoms are fairly mild, usually just a runny nose. However in a very few cases a much more serious reaction can occur. Since the symptoms of a dust mite allergy are basically the same as any other allergy it can be very difficult to determine if you are allergic to dust. Especially since it is so hard to tell when you have been exposed.

The most common dust mite allergy symptom is itchy eyes and a runny nose. This is usually caused by the dust getting up into the nasal passage and causing irritation. A dust mite allergy is caused by the dead mites that are floating around. This is what dust is, it is constantly floating around and there is a good chance that you will inhale some. The proteins in the dust mites are viewed by our bodies as a threat and they release histamine to fight it off. If too much histamine is released we will end up having an allergic reaction. The most common of these is a runny nose and itchy eyes.

The other most common allergy symptom is eczema. This would be a red, very itchy rash. There is a good chance that it will be accompanied by flaking or oozing of the skin. Eczema isn't actually caused by the dust mites, it is a skin condition that usually affects people as children and lasts the remainder of their lives. The outbreaks come and go but they can be triggered in a number of ways, one of which is an allergic reaction.

One of the more serious dust mite allergy symptoms which you might suffer from is asthma. Asthma is an allergic reaction that causes your airway to become inflamed. This makes it difficult to breathe and in some cases it can completely block your airway and make it impossible to breathe. You often hear of people having asthma as if it were an illness. It isn't, it's an allergic reaction. Some people are more prone to attacks than others but anybody can have an asthma attack if they are exposed to an allergen. If you are prone to asthma attacks your doctor will likely have you carry around medication in case you have an attack.

The most serious allergy symptom would be anaphylaxis. This is fairly rare, especially for dust mite allergies but it could happen. Anaphylaxis occurs because the histamine that your body releases causes your blood vessels to dilate. This causes swelling, which can also cause difficulty breathing. There will also likely be a drop in your blood pressure. Anaphylaxis is a serious emergency that will require you to seek medical help immediately. If you are prone to anaphylaxis your doctor will likely have you carry an epinephrine pen around with you so you can inject yourself if you have a reaction.

At one time or another almost everyone on the planet has experienced some type of allergic reaction. The most common allergy symptoms occur when confronted with seasonal allergens such as pollen or ragweed, and may cause itchiness, a runny nose and sneezing. Although annoying these symptoms can be fairly easy to control and cause no real serious health affects.

Those suffering more severe allergic reactions (often in the case of food allergies), may experience congestion or even difficulty breathing. In rare instances, a constriction of the airways can even cause death. That's why understanding your allergies and treating them properly is so important to staying healthy and symptom free.

Most allergies are categorized by three types of reactions; mild, moderate and severe.

Mild allergic reactions remain in the affected area, not spreading to other parts of the body and may include:

-A Rash.

-Itchy, or watery eyes.

-Congestion.

These are usually caused by airborne allergens such as pollen, pet dander or even dust mites and can often be treated with over-the-counter medications as well as prescription drugs.

Moderate allergic reactions can spread to other parts of the body and may include such symptoms as:

-Itchiness.

-Difficulty breathing.

These are often treated by prescription medications. Sudden reactions can often be eased with common antimissiles, until the patient can get to a doctor for emergency help.

A Severe Allergic Reaction also known as Anaphylaxis, can actually be life threatening.
Anaphylaxis is rare, but serious. It is a life-threatening emergency in which the body's response to the allergen comes on suddenly (without much if any warning),and can affect the entire body and how it works. Anaphylaxis often begins with sudden itching of the eyes or face. Within minutes it may progress to more serious symptoms, which may include:

-Varying degrees of swellings that can make breathing and swallowing difficult.

-Abdominal pain.

-Cramps.

-Vomiting.

-Diarrhea.

-Mental confusion or dizziness.

In the event you or someone you know experiences any of these symptoms, prompt medical care is required. Should the reactions begin to constrict the patient's airways or ability to breathe properly, death may occur within minutes. Even when an epi-pen is administered (given to allergy patients in the form of a one-dose shot of epinephrine to ease breathing), and the symptoms begin to subside, medical attention is necessary to ensure that the patient is safe and ok. The most common culprits of severe allergic reactions are a variety of foods including a variety of nuts, seeds, eggs, and even some dairy products.

Those with severe food allergies should refrain from eating or touching foods containing these ingredients in order to prevent life-threatening symptoms from occurring.

You can't go to your local allergy/asthma specialist and have them mix up a cocktail to inject you with, repeatedly, so eventually become desensitized.

This is not like your classic ragweed, or food allergy. Symptoms/reactions are so vast; it's very hard to an exact symptom list together. The symptoms, like people, are not very homogenous. Some people experience just stomach problems, while others experience neurological difficulties, such as being always dizzy and confused.

Here is a very short list of possible symptoms:

- Tired, exhausted, lethargic

- Bloated and gas troubles-Feeling of, 'trapped gas,' or excess gas

- Abdominal Pain

- Gastric reflux/heartburn

- Diarrhea and constipation -Symptoms of IBS/IBD

- Weight problems (under or overweight) - General weakness

- Catching One Flu After Another

- Chronic Illnesses-Bronchitis, Sinusitis

- Infertility-Miscarriage, delayed puberty in girls, irregular menstruation

- Joint Pain

- Clumsiness

Some find they have to completely and strictly eliminate all dairy and soy, as well as gluten. Some people are reactive to the similar protein makeup of these three foods that the body rejects.

While removing additives can make you feel better, it's not until some went gluten/dairy/soy free that some feel normal again.

I suggest the elimination approach. Eliminate ALL gluten, dairy and soy from your diet for at least two weeks. Gradually, re-introduce one at a time, over a course of several weeks and see how you feel.

Also, try keeping a strict food diary - what you ate and, what your subsequent symptoms are and the TIME. The TIME is so important, because for some, it takes a few hours, for some it takes a few days to feel a result.

A lot of people have trouble getting an, 'official' diagnosis of intolerance, or celiac, because it's not always accurate and is often debated which testing is the most accurate. The only way to really tell if you have celiac disease, is to get a biopsy of the small intestines.

If you feel better excluding gluten from your diet, you could consider yourself intolerant anyway-you just won't be formally diagnosed with celiac.

For many people this is fine: they just understand that they need to be 100% gluten free and don't feel a need to get a formal diagnosis. Sadly, some people need a firm diagnosis for their family to be able to support them, or children need one to get school accommodations.

You have to become a champion label reader. Most gluten free diets consist of meat, vegetables, fruits, corn, rice and potatoes, homemade dressings, etc., but you may not be as sensitive as others, or your triggers may be different.

Also, you have to be on the look out for, 'hidden gluten,' and for cross contamination.

So, in summary, if you are contented just knowing gluten makes you sick, just don't eat it!

I congratulate you for having found a piece in the puzzle of getting your health together!

Dogs may have allergy problems which affect their eyes, ears, skin, and other organs. Unfortunately, our pets cannot tell us what is wrong; however, we can observe the miseries our dogs are experiencing such as scratching, rashes, hot spots, dry skin, loss of hair, ear infections, bad breath, smelly stools, sneezing and so on. These are very typical dog allergy symptoms.

Have you noticed your dog having any reactions to the chemicals or the preservatives which are found in commercial dog foods? These companies may claim that their food is the healthiest and the best, but truthfully, this may not be the case.

Our canines like humans need a variety of foods appropriate for them. Commercial dog food may taste good; however, this is not the test for wholesome food which our dog needs. If the food ingredients are causing the problems, you can be sure the chemicals and preservatives are the culprits.

Dog food is treated like many of our human foods. At one time in our past history a prisoner would be restricted to bread and water for three days. In those days there was real nutrition in the bread and a prisoner could survive on its ingredients. The bread of today would not have you see three days. It does not have whole health nutrition. We would get sick.

Likewise, dog food has been shortchanged. We are blindly trusting the dog food companies to do our pets right, however, this is not always the case. And so you and I take our pets to the vet trying to restore their health with medication which in truth is more chemicals and preservatives. It is a vicious cycle.

Chemicals and preservatives are our friends. I am only referring that some of our pets like us may be sensitive or allergic to certain chemicals and preservatives and it affects their health and behavior. We need to be alert and try to solve what is ailing our pet.

Other more severe dog allergy symptoms:

  • Different types of cancers

  • Liver dysfunction and other organ failures

  • Immune system interruptions

  • Blindness

  • Chronic diarrhea

Packages labeled as food containing natural ingredients or are preservative free may not be completely true. These companies may not weigh:

  • The health and condition of meats and vegetables from the original source

  • Names of chemicals, medications and antibiotics that were used in the animals

  • Fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides used for growing plants

  • Storage conditions and shipping methods upon arrival

  • Sanitary handling by employees

  • Cleanliness and sanitation of machinery and building

No matter how many precautions you take we live in a world of chemicals. You breathe oxygen which is a chemical for human survival and you exhale carbon dioxide which plants need for their survival.

We just need to identify the harmful chemicals and preservatives and keep them out of our food and water supplies.

As you think about your dog allergy symptoms and the costs of medical care; do visit the pet category on the home page of Tricia Deed at http://www.Infotrish.vpweb.com/ and review Dog Food Secrets.

When summer comes around the corner, it is never complete until swimming is included in the itinerary. There are numerous bodies of water wherein adults and children alike go swimming, including lakes, rivers, ponds and beaches. However, public and private swimming pools have become a good option for those warm and sunny days when you're just in the mood for frolicking in the water, mostly because they are easily accessible and considerably safer. However, your summer enjoyment can be cut short once you experience the symptoms associated chlorine allergy.

There is still no plausible cause as to why people become allergic to chlorine. However, it is considered to be a harsh chemical because it is known to indirectly contribute to allergies simply by irritating the respiratory system. In fact, studies have shown that people who are exposed to chlorine for long periods of time are more at risk to develop respiratory allergies and asthma. Fortunately, people who are not constantly exposed to chlorine are also least likely to become allergic to it. Nevertheless, pools with high concentration of chlorine may still cause chlorine sensitivity.

The important thing to remember is not to assume immediately. It is important to differentiate the allergy itself from other possible underlying conditions. Here are some of the symptoms of chlorine allergy, most of which manifest a few minutes after you go out of the pool:

1. Respiratory problems- This is considered to be one of the hallmark symptoms of being allergic to chlorine. If you suffered from asthma as a child then the feeling that you get will be more or less the same. In fact, it may even be more serious in stark comparison to asthma, especially if you are still exposed to chlorinated water. You may feel constriction in your chest or feel like you're clamoring for air to breathe or just not being able to breathe in general. You may also begin coughing or sneezing as the difficulty in breathing progresses. When this occurs, try to stay calm and ask someone to call the doctor for you. If you're still in the pool, move out.

2. Eye irritation- This symptom is not found in people fond of swimming pools alone. It also manifests on people who are exposed to chlorine through fumes and household products. If you notice your eyes becoming constantly red and itchy after being exposed to chlorine then you need to consider the possibility of an allergy. The eyes may also be dry or watery, depending on the body's reaction. It is important that you don't rub your eyes no matter how itchy it may feel.

3. Dry Skin- The dry skin associated with being allergic to chlorine does not constitute those white patches also typically seen in swimmers. In this case, the skin may start to feel tight, itchy or become extremely flaky after exposure to chlorine through household products or swimming. This is a good indicator of being allergic to chlorine.

Now that you know the significant signs and symptoms of chlorine allergy, you need to be vigilant of these manifestations in order to stop them in their tracks and prevent any complications in the future.
